Since the global manufacturing companies using our solutions rely heavily on the stability of our equipment and the long-term functionality of individual components, we continue to support and repair our products as long as possible. Many of our programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human-machine interface (HMI) products are in production for over 20 years.

Once the end of manufacture is announced for these products, customers have at least a year to make final purchases, and we provide migration tools wherever necessary. We also commit to providing technical support and repair services for seven more years, and further support is available on a contingent basis.

Let’s take a look at a prime example of how we helped a company keep operations running when one of our controllers went EOL. This company manufactured garbage collection vehicles and used our CPM1 controller on its trucks. Since these trucks were used throughout the United States and were expected to be in use for 25 years or more, the manufacturer was concerned about the impact of the CPM1’s impending discontinuation.

Omron representatives were able to reassure this customer that the CP1M would be supported with repairs and technical support for seven years more after the discontinuation date. The customer was also relieved that the successor controller, the CP1, could easily replace the CPM1. The CPM1 program could be opened in Omron’s CX-ONE programming environment and downloaded into the new CP1 with a minimum of changes needed to the ladder program.

Omron’s philosophy of long-term support applies to our full line of automation solutions. If you’re interested in learning more about our technical support and repair services, check out our Services page!
