Pharmaceutical manufacturer Steierl-Pharma needed to modernize its labeling process to ensure GMP compliance without causing machine stoppages. Omron’s high-performance FHV7 smart camera is a key component of the company’s new HERMA labeling machine.
Hardly any industry is subject to such stringent quality requirements and legal regulations as the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to regulation around active ingredients, production and storage, all labels must accurately represent the products, be easy to read, and stick reliably for a drug’s entire usability period.
Steierl-Pharma turned to Omron for an advanced vision solution that would inspect 100% of its labels at throughputs of around 3,600 units per hour. This level of speed meant that the smart camera would have just milliseconds to complete a single unit’s inspection, which would include checking label identity and verifying batch and expiration data via OCV.
The Omron FHV7 has proven to be a highly sensitive, specific, and reliable solution that requires just 80 milliseconds per label. Steierl-Pharma also appreciates the smart camera’s intuitive software, which requires minimal training.
